Sophie Germain grew up in a house on Rue St Denis, but after her younger sister married, the family moved to
13 Rue de Savoi where she spent her adulthood. In this house, located a few blocks away, across from the Seine River, Sophie
died in 1831.
I took these pictures years ago. The first one shows the entrance of the building, identified by a
plaque honoring Sophie as a philosopher and mathematician. I entered the building and took more pictures from the courtyard,
searching for what could have been Sophie's window. Needless to say, I felt Sophie's presence, as if she were still there,
reaching out to me across time...
